From Captain to Bilge Rats: The Story Behind the SeaAlice Hats
A customer came in one day and told us that her husband has a boat in Alaska where he goes as often as possible. He named it the "SeaAlice" (named after his late Aunt Alice who would have found the play on words hysterical...get it? It sounds like a certain medication that gentlemen of a certain age take for reasons?)
She said he was getting ready to take another trip up there and wanted to know if we could make him some hats for him and his crew to wear. Of course, he is the CAPTAIN. He son-in-law was the FIRST MATE. All of the grandkids are BILGE RATS. There would be about 12 hats in total. He wanted them navy blue with "scrambled eggs" on the brim and an Anchor embroidered in gold on the front with their titles.
We got busy and found the perfect navy hats, ordered the scrambled eggs and tracked down the perfect anchor art file.
When we got them done we let her know that they were ready for pick up. She sent the CAPTAIN himself in to get them! He was very pleased! Ecstatic really.
The next day, she came back and made a request for another hat for her husband's brother. She was a little nervous to ask if we would be ok making one more that said "MASTER BAITER". I think we all got a good chuckle out of that! Fortunately we had managed to order an extra pair of scrambled eggs and a hat and before the day was over the hat was done.
